Ice Cream Sandwich first screenshots leaked

Ice Cream Sandwich Home screenLooks like some photos of Ice Cream Sandwich have been leaked to a couple of sites. Ice Cream Sandwich is Google’s next iteration of the Android platform, which is suppose to unify Gingerbread, latest smartphone variation of the OS, with Honeycomb, the latest (and so far the first) tablet variation. There are four screenshots in total, two of them are on RootzWiki and two are on Android Police. They show Ice Cream Sandwich running on Nexus S, though there are a lot of black out sections.

Most likely this is an extremely early version of the OS but it’s already showing some neat things like a new look for folders, separate “Widgets” tab in app launcher and that blue theme we first saw on Honeycomb.

Other new ICS features that the sites are reporting on, based on some speculation, are:

  • Built-in panorama mode for the camera
  • All new look for Gmail app
  • The rumoured “Nexus Prime” is going to get it first, but other device will get the OTA updated
  • Persistent Google search bar at the top

It doesn’t look like this is going to be a major upgrade, even assuming this is a very early version. It’s a bit disappointing but expected as Google will probably want to make sure that as many phones as possible would qualify for it. I expect though the changes under the hood to be more significant and pave the way for more visually interesting updates in the future.

Most exciting part of this is that we get yet another confirmation of the existence of the “Nexus Prime” handset, which I cannot wait for. Anyway, here are the screenshots.
